How to Update
Proto Epic: Once the update is available, log into your Cloud account and visit the Devices page. Click the Update button for each device you want to update. Live Beam Kit: Once the update is available, log into your Live Beam Kit and click the Update Now. The update will take approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on connection speed. Drag and Drop ContentUsers will have the ability to drag and drop content on the Cloud to reorganize. You can also drag content into folders.
NOTE: To enable drag and drop functionality, make sure that your Content Sorting is set to "Custom".
For version 1, you must enable Custom Sorting to reorder your content. If custom sorting is not enabled, the content will remain in its specified sorting order, for example: "Date Added".
To drag and drop items into a folder you must use any Sorting other than Custom. This will be fixed in an upcoming release.
In addition, Drag and Drop will not work on the device level yet, but we are working on it and it will be available soon! |
Batch Content Assignment Bug NOTE: We have patched a bug that was causing devices to go offline when a large amount of content was assigned over intermittent internet. |
4K Live Beaming & Bitrate Controls- Live Beam Kit NOTE: A new toggle will allow you to easily swap between Full HD (1080p) and 4K UHD in our Live Beam Kit.
To enable this setting, simply open up the Settings menu by tapping on the "Gear" icon on the Video Preview screen.
From this window, you will be able to toggle the Live Beam Kit to HD or 4K. |

Multi-Select Content, Playlists, and DevicesUsers now have the ability to select multiple content, playlists, and devices by clicking “Select All”, or by individually selecting items. |
Once items are selected, the Multi-Select menu will appear. Here the user can assign, move, share, and delete multiple pieces of content. Content, Playlists, and Devices can be multi-selected. |
Account Deletion
Users will now have the ability to delete their account. Simply navigate to the Settings page and click “Delete Account”. The user will be required to re-enter their password to confirm deletion. |

SubfoldersUsers will have the ability to create folders within folders for better organization. |
To create a subfolder, simply dive into an existing folder. Once inside you can click the folder icon with the + symbol in the upper right side of the page (underneath the Sorting dropdown). |

WiFi SetupYou can now connect to nearby WiFi networks using the Proto's touchscreen! NOTE: The on-screen keyboard can be sensitive. Tap firmly, and quickly to avoid double-tapping keys as you type.
To turn on WiFi, click the Settings gear on the Proto device home screen.
On the Settings Menu, select "Network Settings".
Select "WiFi" to configure a new connection.
Under the WiFi Settings, make sure the WiFi toggle is turned on. Under Available Networks, select the network you would like to connect to. |
Once you've selected a network, you will be prompted to input a password, if any. Tap on the "Password" field to begin inputting a password. An on-screen keyboard will appear at the bottom of your Proto's touchscreen.
TIP: You can un-anchor the keyboard and move it upwards by selecting the Keyboarding settings icon in the upper left side of the keyboard, and selecting the "un-anchor" option. Once you've done this, you can freely select and drag the keyboard around on screen to your desired position. |
Using the on-screen keyboard, enter the password for your network and tap "Connect".
TIP: The on-screen keyboard can sometimes register double-taps, so be sure to tap firmly and quickly remove your finger after each tap. You can also double-check the password before submitting by unmasking the password with the "eye" icon in the password field. |
Once you are done entering your password, simply hit "Connect" to connect. Proto will remember your password going forward.
If you'd like to unpair an existing network, you can do so in the Network settings by clicking on the Network's name and tapping "Forget this Network". |
SearchSearch will allow you to search for content, playlists, devices, and more. Just use the search bar on each screen to search the current page. |
You can also search on the Playlists and Devices pages! |
2-Factor Authentication2-Factor Authentication allows you to tie a mobile phone to your account. Each time you log in, you will receive a code to verify your login for added security.
To enable 2FA, head to the Settings tab of your Proto Cloud account. Then click on the Security Tab. |
Then toggle on 2-Factor Authentication. IMPORTANT: Please make sure to update your Live Beam Kit and the Live Beam App to the latest version before enabling 2-Factor Authentication for your account! If you are on an older version of the Live Beam App or Live Beam Kit, you may be unable to log in while 2FA is enabled. |
Live Beam Usage IndicatorA Live Beam Usage Indicator in the Live Beam Kit and Live Beam App will inform you how many hours users have beamed to your devices. You can find the Usage indicator by opening the side menu in the Live Beam Kit and Live Beam App. |

A New Update for Proto is Coming SoonWe are writing to let you know that a new update is scheduled to release next Tuesday April 26 at 11PM Pacific Time (Wednesday, April 27 at 6:00AM GMT).
If you have any major events planned, we recommend updating and testing your devices two or more hours before the event to ensure there are no network issues.

How to Update

Below you can find an overview of the upcoming features. Restart DeviceYou can now restart your Epic Device either using the device's touchscreen, or via the Cloud.
NOTE: To restart a device using Proto Cloud, the device will need to be online.
To restart your device on the Epic touchscreen:
Alternatively, you can also restart your device using Proto Cloud. To do this, log into your Proto Cloud Account and head to the Devices page. On the devices page, open the Options "..." dropdown for the device you want to restart. Select the "Restart" option. A popup will appear confirming you want to restart. Once you confirm, the unit will restart.NOTE: for remote restart to work, your Epic must be powered on, and online. SortingYou will now be able to sort content on both the Epic and the Proto Cloud app.
To sort on Proto Cloud, open the Content page and notice that there is a Sorting dropdown in the upper right corner.
Using this drop down, you can sort by different criteria such as Name or Date Added. Similarly, you will also be able to sort Playlists on the Playlists page and Devices on your Devices page. You will also be able to sort Content or Playlists on the Epic in Offline mode. To do so, click the "Play" button icon on the Proto home screen to enter Offline mode. Then use the droplist in the upper right corner to determine which order you'd like your content or playlists to display.NOTE: The touchscreen functionality must be enabled to use this feature. What is Proto?
You may have noticed that PORTL has undergone a name change to Proto. We have changed our name to Proto meaning "first", in the spirit of pioneering in new forms of volumetric video and communication!

How to Update
Proto Epic: Once the update is available, log into your Cloud account and visit the Devices page. Click the Update button for each device you want to update. Below you can find an overview of the upcoming features. Adding Folders in Proto CloudFolders will allow you to organize your content on the Cloud and Epic device.
To create a folder on the Cloud, go to the Content page and click the + Folder button. You will then be able to pick a name for your folder. Once your folder is created, you can click the "..." Options icon on any piece of content and select "Move to".
A popup will open. You can also create new folders here or select the folder you'd like to move to, and then save.
Once you save, your content will be moved to the new folder. Adding Folders to your EpicTo create a folder on your Epic device, go to the Devices page and select the device you'd like to add a folder to.
Under the Content tab, hit the + Folder icon to create a new folder. Give the folder a name and save.
Once your folder is created, you can click the "..." Options icon on any piece of content and select "Move to".
A popup will open. You can also create new folders here or select the folder you'd like to move to, and then save.
Once you save, your content will be moved to the new folder. You will be able to see the folder in Offline mode on your Epic.
To view this, turn on the Epic and hit the "Play" icon button.
Then tap the "Content" icon to see your content. The folders you created will also appear on the Proto Epic. Optional UpdatesGoing forward, any nonessential updates to your Epic, Proto Cloud, or Live Beam Kit will be optional.
There will still occasionally be releases when major functionality is added, and you must update.
For these mandatory updates, you will still be required to update your Live Beam Kit, Epic, or Cloud account before using them. |

How to Update

Security PIN for PORTL EpicYou can now lock down your PORTL by configuring a PIN on your PORTL Cloud account. To do so, go to the Devices page and locate the Device you want to add a PIN to. Click on the Device and navigate to the Device Info Panel.
At the bottom of this page, you will see a toggle to turn the PIN on or off. Go ahead and toggle the PIN on to set up your pin.
NOTE: Your device must be online to set up a PIN.

Once you've set up your PIN, your PORTL device will now ask to enter a PIN before opening Offline mode. |
Optional Updates for PORTLGoing forward, any nonessential updates to your PORTL will be optional. This means you will be able to continue using your PORTL even if it's not updated.
There will still ocasionally be releases when major functionality is added to your PORTL and you must update. For these mandatory updates, you will still be required to update your PORTL before using it.
NOTE: Regardless of the update, if you have Epic Version 0.5.0 or higher, offline mode will continue to work without updating. |
Content SharingPORTL Cloud users will now have the option to share content across accounts. To share content, simply navigate to the Content page and click the "..." Options dropdown. Then select the "Share" option. This will open a window with all the users that have access to the content. |
Once the "Share" window is open, you can type the email address of the person you want to invite and hit "Enter".
Finally you can click "Send" to invite the user as a guest to your content! The user will receive an email notifying them that you shared a piece of content to their account.
Guests can freely assign, unassign, or play content you've shared with them to their own PORTLs!
NOTE: If a user does not yet have a PORTL Cloud account, the content you shared will be waiting for them once they set up an account. |
Playlist SharingPORTL Cloud users will also have the option to share playlists across accounts. To share a playlist, simply navigate to the Playlist page and click the "..." Options dropdown. Then select the "Share" option. This will open a window with all the users that have access to the playlist. |

Offline ModePORTL's new offline mode will allow you to play any content or playlist that is assigned to your PORTL, using the Epic's touch screen.*
*You must have touchscreen enabled to use this feature.
With Offline mode, you will be able to play videos and playlists whether or not your PORTL has internet!
To open Offline mode, simply click the "play button" icon on the right hand side of your PORTL from the home screen. This will open up a menu with all playlists and content currently on your PORTL. |
Please note that you will still need to upload and assign content or create playlists using PORTL Cloud. Once the playlist or content is assigned to your PORTL and fully downloaded you will have access to play it following the above steps, even if you are offline!
To access your content, simply click the Content tab.
To return to the home screen on your PORTL, click "Home". |
Looping Content in Offline ModeBy default, Offline Mode will play a video or playlist once, and then return to the main menu.
To have a content or playlist loop infinitely, simply select the "Loop" toggle at the top right corner of the screen.
This will allow your content or playlist to loop infinitely.
Exiting Looped Content in Offline Mode If you've turned on looping in Offline mode, you can exit by pressing your finger to the screen and holding down while a video is playing. This will bring up a settings menu.
From the settings menu, select "Exit". The video will then exit and you will return to the video selection screen. |
Device SharingUsers will now be able to share their PORTL device with other users. To do so, simply go to your Devices page and click "Share" in the options dropdown.
You can invite other PORTL Cloud users to your PORTL by typing in the email associated with their account. Guest accounts will be able to use your PORTL easily from their own account. |
New Year, New PlaybarOur new playbar will allow you to scrub through content and also see the duration of your videos and current position on the timeline. Simply click a spot on the timeline to jump forward or backward in your video. |
PORTL Support CenterPORTL Cloud will now have a Support Center in the left side menu. When you log in, you will now see a Support button easily available from any page in our application. We are still expanding on our support center, so any feedback is much appreciated! |

PORTL Epic v0.4.2
NOTE: Please update your PORTL now by logging into the Devices Page in PORTL Cloud. The update should take approximately 30 minutes with a fast internet connection.
Once the update is complete your PORTL will display "Version 0.4.2" in the top left corner. If you do not see "Version 0.4.2" after the update, please contact support@portlhologram.com for assistance with the update. Patch to refresh video player every 12 hoursOur video player will now refresh every 12 hours of continuous play. Refreshes will occur between videos so content is not interrupted. This will improve the stability of the player and prevent crashes when playing for long periods of time continuously.
New logs added to monitor performance and debug errors We've now added monitoring to evaluate performance and debug errors with video playback. |
